Abstract:

Dr. Hickam will provide an introduction to the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute's (PCORI) mission and, in particular, roles for statisticians and biostatisticians in PCORI-funded projects. PCORI's Methodology Committee has released methodology standards that all applicants must address in their funding proposals. PCORI also has a funding program for advancing statistical methods and regularly holds workshops on methodological issues. Dr. Hickam will give an overview of the methods projects PCORI has funded as well as the strategic goals of PCORI's portfolio for methodological research. This discussion will address issues related to missing data, causal inference, heterogeneity of treatment effects, and general issues related to data quality.
