The Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (ASEC) is one of the most widely used socioeconomic surveys, including as the source of official poverty estimates and national estimates of income. The ASEC asks each person detailed questions categorizing income into over 50 sources. To take better advantage of an automated environment and to update questions on retirement income and health insurance, a redesigned instrument was field-tested using a split panel design in 2014. Given the positive results, the redesigned instrument was given to the full sample starting in 2015. This paper describes the processing changes and changes to the statistical matching imputation techniques implemented to take full advantage of the new and revised income questions in the redesigned instrument.
