Abstract

In ecological studies, a species response, in terms of either growth or survival, to a changing environment is described as a "reaction norm". The curvature of the reaction norm dictates whether environmental variability improves or suppresses the species.

Here we present theory and methods to perform statistical inference concerning the effect of variable weather history via tests of curvature for a functional single index model.
