Abstract:

The focus of this workshop is applying Rcpp to extend R and accelerate execution via simple C++ functions. It aims to enable R users to deploy Rcpp for both one-off tasks and experiments implemented in C++. First, we will discuss how to compile simple C++ functions containing just a few lines. This ensures the working environment is set up correctly and provides familiarity with the toolchains. Next, we will cover simple package building. This process is aided by environments such as RStudio and helper functions. Time permitting, we will study a recent, simple, small-enough yet complete and meaningful package deploying Rcpp in detail. Knowledge of R and general programming is helpful, as is prior C or C++ knowledge.
