Title: Estimating the Risk of West Nile Virus Transmission Through Tissue Transplantation
Author(s): Ryan Hicks*
Companies: Colorado State University
Keywords: West Nile Virus ; epidemiology ; risk estimation ; resampling ; transplantation
Abstract:

"We adapt published and validated method for WNV transfusion risk estimation to quantitative risk estimation for WNV transmission via allograft tissue transplantation from cadaveric donors to recipients in the U.S. The estimation method relies on statistical resampling to estimate a time-dependent curve representing risk over the time frame of interest. This is done using human WNV surveillance data from the CDC, which naturally captures seasonality and is specific to local or regional populations. We apply tissue-specific adjustment factors to the estimates to account for likelihoods of virus sequestration in the various tissues suitable for transplantation."
