Abstract:
|
The field of Business Analytics has grown quickly and has become a relatively new career choice for applied statisticians. Recent reports from McKinsey Global Institute and Gartner Research suggest that the demand for Business Analytics professionals will outstrip supply. This clearly creates an exciting professional opportunity for applied statisticians but also has definite implications for applied statistics education. This talk will explore the background and foundations of the new and developing field of Business Analytics and suggest why the field has become such a dynamic and progressive area of growth. Key skills and capabilities required to be successful in this new field will be discussed in light of traditional applied statistics curricula. Finally we will consider some the implications of Business Analytics for applied statistics education and applied statisticians.
