Abstract:

SCHOLAR (Statistical Consulting Help for Organizational Leaders and Academic Researchers) is a statistical consulting service founded in 2009 at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). SCHOLAR is staffed primarily by undergraduate students, from a variety of majors at UCO, who work in interdisciplinary teams on projects submitted by researchers from UCO or representatives of organizations in the community. Since 2009, 43 students have participated in SCHOLAR, 34 projects have been completed, and more than 25 presentations have been given at local and national conferences. This presentation will focus on the impact SCHOLAR has had on both students and clients. We will detail student outcomes, including presentations, continuation to graduate school, understanding of statistics, and confidence in research abilities; and will present results of a client satisfaction survey. Additionally, a former SCHOLAR student will speak first-hand of his experiences.
