Abstract:

Volumetric Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the brain has become an established tool in understanding the brain changes associated with various forms of dementia (Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, etc.). As treatments are being developed for specific dementias, the ability to accurately diagnose which disease a patient has becomes critical. In this paper we explore the extent to which data mining algorithms (both off-the-shelf and problem specific) can be used to differentiate different forms of dementia from volumetric MRI data.
