Title: What Can a Statistician Do at an Airline?
Author(s): Aleksandra Stein*
Companies:
Keywords: airlines ; analytics
Abstract:

Although no one I work with has "Statistician" as their official title, at Hawaiian Airlines we do quite a bit of statistical modeling, forecasting, and even the occasional experimental design. There is also the day-to-day work of defining new standardized metrics, creating and monitoring performance, data mining, text analytics, and customer/marketing surveys. We'll look at a few fun projects that happen in the airline world and what department(s) such projects belong to. Next time you get asked, "What are you going to do with a degree in Statistics?" you can answer, "Sky's the limit."

Authors who are presenting talks have a * after their name.
