Abstract:

Times have changed, and so have teaching methods for graduate courses in statistics. Or have they? Although much focus has been placed on effective teaching of undergraduate statistics courses recently, the teaching of graduate-level statistics courses has received relatively little attention. Many graduate programs in statistics have certainly evolved and changed their curricula in an effort to meet the world's changing needs. Have teaching methods for these programs also evolved? How should teaching a graduate-level statistics course differ from teaching an undergraduate course? Is there a difference between preparing a student for a career in industry versus academia? And how might these differences affect our teaching styles and approaches? This roundtable is an opportunity for faculty members to discuss different teaching methods and their effectiveness for different types of graduate-level statistics courses.
