Abstract:

We consider data points generated by probability distributions on one-dimensional manifolds perturbed by random noise. Nonparametric estimation and identification of open and closed curves under regularity restraints is developed. Asymptotic results are derived under general conditions on the error process. Numerical examples illustrate the results.
