Abstract:

Given the rapid pace of developments in the area of mobile finance, the Federal Reserve Board began conducting annual surveys of consumers' use of mobile financial services in 2011. The survey examines trends in the adoption and use of mobile banking, payments, and shopping behavior and how the emergence of mobile financial services affects consumers' interaction with financial institutions. The 2014 Survey was administered by GfK, an online consumer research company, as it was in 2011, 2012, and 2013. The survey was conducted using a sample of adults ages 18 and over from KnowledgePanel®, a proprietary, probability-based web panel of more than 50,000 individuals from randomly sampled households. The 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 survey samples were all composed of a mix of a randomly selected respondents to the previous year's survey and new survey respondents. The study will focus on how the responses to the questions across surveys have changed over the years employing statistical trend analysis.
