Since its launch as a data-driven general journalism site in 2014, FiveThirtyEight has created thousands of data visualizations on topics ranging from the presidential election to basketball to Fandango movie reviews. Crafting visualizations for journalism requires not only a sense of what the public will understand, but also a solid workflow for creating quality visualizations under very short deadlines. In this talk I will show examples of our work and discuss my role running the graphics team, the tools and technologies we use, and how we approach data visualization for mass consumption.
