Abstract #318209
Title: Women in Statistics: Past, Present, and Future
Author(s): Sally Morton*
Companies: University of Pittsburgh
Keywords: Diversity
Abstract:

Women have made extraordinary contributions to statistics across the professional spectrum: academia, government, and industry. This talk will highlight a few of the most significant examples, stressing both scientific and leadership impact on the discipline as well as society. Discussion of the current representation of women in the field will be included. Though the advancement of women might be considered to be more successful in statistics as compared to some other fields, much remains to be done to ensure inclusion. Implications for statistical education, career development, and the discipline at large will be addressed. Statistics must embrace and increase diversity for both ethical as well as practical reasons.
