Abstract:

Public universities are under increasing pressure to demonstrate and promote the broader impact and economic importance of the research produced by its faculty. In collaboration with the Office of Vice President of Research and the Office of Technology Transfer at The University of Georgia, we will examine the relationship between faculty activities with economic impact and potential factors including support from the university support and different sources of funding support (e.g. government or industry), using a hierarchical analysis. More specifically, we will be investigating whether or not faculty are reporting their research or projects for patents, commercial potential, etc. while taking into account the nested nature of departments with universities and the potentially dramatic differences among disciplines.
