Abstract:

Analyzing longitudinal data is complicated usually due to partial interdependence of repeated observations on an outcome variable for a subject. Modelling such data can become cumbersome, especially when interventions such as policy changes or screening tests or a new treatment take place during the length of the study. We propose to perform longitudinal data analyses using generalized linear models as discussed in Liang and Zeger's 1986 article using generalized estimation equations (GEEs) to obtain consistent estimates of the regression parameters and also provide consistent estimates of parameters of time dependence. We plan to perform this analysis on billing data collected from 1999 to 2010 for the patients admitted for prostate cancer to the hospital or emergency department at a New Jersey acute care hospital.
