Title: Some Notes on Applications of Exploratory Factor Analysis
Author(s): Xiaohui Wang*
Companies: The University of Texas Pan American
Keywords: Exploratory factor analysis
Abstract:

Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) is commonly used in many fields of research to detect the underlining multivariate data structure. However, the method is frequently employed in a rush-to-answer way, without careful checking of the sampling adequacy and potential outliers. Further, the proper factor extraction method, rotation method, and number of factors, which depends on the prevailing conditions and impacts the outcome, were sometime chosen blindly. We provide some practical notes on those aspects of EFA and examples are shown for illustration purpose.
