Title: Extensions of Generalized Causal Mediation Analysis
Author(s): Jeffrey M. Albert*

Abstract:

Generalized causal mediation (GCM) analysis offers an approach to decompose an overall exposure or treatment effect into contributions from multiple pathways, possibly arising from multiple stages of mediators. The method, which allows for different types of outcomes following generalized linear models, uses an extension of the mediation formula to estimate pathway effects, and bootstrap resampling to obtain confidence intervals. The present research extends GCM to handle multiple mediators at each stage, clustered data, and latent mediators. The extended GCM analysis methods are applied to data from a longitudinal study of dental caries in adolescents.
