Abstract:
|
Precisely powering a repeated-measures experiment requires assumptions around more parameters than many researchers have previously considered; additionally, data may be collected at more time points than the number of primary interest to the researcher. Providing researchers with visualizations of the impact of added time points on required sample size can allow researchers to better define their hypotheses and sufficiently power experiments.
This paper details the added assumptions and potential missteps that arise with added time points in a power analysis. Visualizations of the range of data patterns that can arise from a single effect size are provided. These visualizations can be adapted to a wide range of input parameters and aim to capture several effects of time observed in a clinical setting.
