Abstract:

Response-adaptive randomization procedures have been proposed and studied extensively in literature. Almost all procedures are based on one important assumption that the procedures are updated after each response. However, in many clinical trials, it is unrealistically to update the randomization after each response. In this paper, we propose a new family of response adaptive randomization procedures that are updated after a group responses. Under widely satisfied conditions, we show that the theoretical properties of usually doubly adaptive biased coin (DBCD) are still hold for the proposed group DBCDs. Numerical studies also show that the group DBCDs have similar properties as the usually DBCDs.
