Global warming or climate change caused by the humans has recently become a topic of great concern in science. Many scientists believe the recent rapid warming occurred due to the humans' undue influence of the environment. The scientists point to many causes of global warning including the burning of fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, and oil), and methane and nitrous oxide from certain waste management and agricultural practices. The proportion of the emitted gases has increased significantly over the last few decades. The most commonly cited greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide. To better understand the accelerated increase in global warming, it is necessary to model the historical rise of temperature, and forecast future global temperature. It is also useful to examine the impact of carbon dioxide on climate change. In this paper, we model the changes in the average global temperature using a time series analysis, and discuss the effect of carbon dioxide on global temperature.
