Title: Mean Residual Life Function for Additive and Multiplicative Hazard Rate Models
Author(s): Ramesh Gupta*
Companies: University of Maine
Keywords: Failure rate ; mean residual life function ; monotonicity ; turning points
Abstract:

In this presentation, we will consider the mean residual life function and its monotonicity in the case of additive and multiplicative hazard rate models. It will be shown that the additive (multiplicative) hazard rate does not imply reduced ( proportional) mean residual life function. In the case of non monotonic failure rates, the location of the turning points of the mean residual life function will be investigated in both cases. The case of random additive and multiplicative hazard rate will also be considered. Several examples will be provided to illustrate the results. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To be presented at the Joint Statistical Meetings, Seattle, WA, 2015
