Abstract:
|
Applications for immigration benefits are screened against numerous sources of derogatory information. USCIS's Fraud Detection and National Security Directorate recently started computerizing this process using biographical information from applications and automatically comparing it to several watchlists. Biographic-based screening produces "hits" derived from information duplicated in multiple databases or new information that can augment national security investigations. We employ several statistical techniques to (1) classify automated watchlist rule "hits" based on the level of new information they provide, and (2) prioritize individuals according to the risk associated with their national security watchlist "hits".
