Abstract #314684
Title: Variable Screening in Biothreat Detection Using Weighted Leverage Score
Author(s): Wenxuan Zhong*
Companies: University of Georgia
Keywords: Leverage ; variable selection ; statistical learning
Abstract:

The early detection of biothreat is extremely difficult because most of the early clinical signs in infected subjects show indistinguishable "flu-like" symptoms. Recent researches show that the genomic markers are the most reliable indicators, and thus, are widely used in the existing detection methods in the past decades. In this talk, I will introduce a biomarker screening method based on the weighted leverage score. The weighted leverage score is a variant of the leverage score that has been widely used for the diagnostic of linear regression. Empirical studies demonstrate that the weighted leverage score is not only computationally efficient but also statistically effective in variable screening.
