Abstract:

A project scope statement (SOW) is a critical method to outline the project's deliverables and identify the constraints, assumptions, and key milestones. The SOW defines the boundaries of a project and provides a contract specifying what the consultant and stakeholders agree upon as the goals, method, and deliverables. It states the actions to be taken if any changes to the milestones or delivery dates are required. Project mapping provides the work breakdown structure (WBS) and the project milestones dates. WBS list the work units to be performed and provides a reference schedule for managing progress. Mapping specifies the communications management plan, which describes when and how information will be distributed to between the consultant and client. Mapping should also describe the quality assurance and risk management strategies to be used. Project execution needs to be synchronized with project scoping and mapping. Project execution seems straightforward, but changing requirements, competing priorities, and unexpected surprises can delay even well structured projects. Task tracking, team collaboration, and project reporting provide the essential project execution tools.
