Title: Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in the Business/Policy Context
Author(s): Sam Woolford*
Companies: Bentley University
Keywords: SEM ; PLS-SEM ; DAGs ; Millenium Goals ; Business Analytics
Abstract:

The complexity of current business and policy issues is a key driver in the growth of business analytics and the application of statistics to problems in these arenas. In particular, the desire to identify and clarify causal relationships has led to the recognition that many business and policy research questions of interest require advanced analytical capabilities and models such as SEM. This talk highlights some of the issues this raises for graduate business education and presents an application, focused on the Millennium Development Goals in Africa, which demonstrates how SEM and related modeling methodologies can provide powerful approaches to identify possible causal relationships and inform strategic decisions.
