Abstract:

PITCHf/x is a general term for a system of cameras which tracks the flight of a baseball with a series of 3D measurements. pitchRx is an R package which aides in the acquisition and visualization of PITCHf/x and related Gameday data. In this talk, the audience will learn how to use pitchRx and Generalized Additive Models (GAMs) to acquire, visualize, and model events over the strike-zone. More specifically, a case study of strike/ball umpire decisions will be presented.
