Keywords: IPython ; data science ; collaboration ; tools ; notebook ; Google
Abstract:

Building products and making decisions based on data is at the core of what we do at Google. Increasingly common among fields such as journalism and government, this data-driven mindset is changing the way traditionally non-technical organizations do work. While the enthusiasm for a data-driven workflow is there, organizations have difficulties effectively collaborating on data. It is hard for programmers to share simple workflows with statisticians. It's hard for managers to understand the analysis they are presented and provide meaningful feedback to the team. Built on top of the IPython notebook infrastructure and open source Google libraries, coLaboratory addresses these breakdowns by supporting an organization as they work with data. This talk will cover the background research that led to the creation of coLaboratory, the design of the coLaboratory notebook, and a demo of the system.
