Abstract:
|
The Supreme Court has found that an "essential component" of the right to an impartial jury is one drawn from a representative cross-section of the community. In practice, this has meant that the jury venire (those summoned for possible jury service) must have proportions of women, African-Americans and Hispanics approximating those of the community served by the court. This paper examines how to get jury data, and the statistics involved in making the comparison.
