Take Your R Skills to the Next Level — Professional Development Continuing Education Course
ASA , Section for Statistical Programmers and Analysts
If you are ready to take your R skills to the next level so that you can improve your R programming effectiveness, this hands-on course is for you. The course will cover four major topics which consistently turn up in the work of statisticians, data analysts and statistical programmers who utilize R: 1) Producing customized figures and tables; 2) Creating automated Word reports from within R, 3) Designing R Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) and 4) Object-oriented programming. By the end of the course, you will be able to create an R GUI which will allow you to interface with several user-defined R functions in order to produce an automated Word report. The R GUI will include several windows and widgets (e.g., menus, labels, buttons, radio buttons). The Word report will combine HTML and Cascade Style Sheets (CSS) and will include elements such as a title, a list of figures, a list of tables, sections, paragraphs, tables and figures. Figures will be implemented via functions relying on R programming with S3 classes and on the powerful functionality available in R's grid graphical system. To attend, you will need a laptop installed with R and basic knowledge of R and HTML programming.
