Abstract:
|
In April 2013, President Obama announced the NIH Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative in order to catalyze development of the tools required to unravel the mysteries of the brain. The interim report of the BRAIN Initiative Advisory Committee was published in September 2013 and its final report will be published in June 2014. The BRAIN Initiative will foster to the development of a broad range of new technologies for recording data from the brain at multiple different scales. Success of the Initiative, and the eventual application of the new technologies, will depend critically on informed data analyses. As a consequence, there will be unprecedented new opportunities for statisticians to take part in methodology research, teaching and training. I will summarize these opportunities in this talk.
