Title: Measurement Error and Misclassifications: New Opportunities for Research and Applications
Author(s): Donna Spiegelman*+
Companies: Harvard School of Public Health
Keywords: measurement error ; misclassification ; epidemiology ; observational research
Abstract:

Much research on methods for the design and analysis of studies with covariate and/or outcome measurement and/or misclassification has been produced over the past 20 or so years. What more is there to be done? I will give a brief overview of what has been accomplished, seek input from roundtable participants on this, and then launch a discussion on new opportunities for further research. Despite all this theoretical research, applications in original scientific publications have been few and far between. Why? Software solutions currently available will be reviewed and existing limitations discussed. Opportunities for educating statisticians and applied researchers also will be considered.
