Abstract:
|
As we improve introductory statistics courses---making them more GAISE-compliant, taking advantage of technology, and implementing findings from statistics education research---and as the AP Statistics program continues to expand, we may find a growing number of students who are eager to continue beyond a first college-level course in statistics. Many scientific fields (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics) have a long history of a two-semester sequence as an introduction to the discipline, but that has not been the case for statistics. What sort of course should we provide for those students who really want to go on to Stat II? This roundtable will facilitate a discussion among participants about topics, options, ideas, and experiences with teaching a second course.
