Abstract:

We present an agent-based social network model of peer and media influence on tobacco product use. This model incorporates risk perceptions associated with particular products and behaviors. It demonstrates how these factors can interact with both addiction and market environments to enhance or constrain the ability for novel products to affect cigarette prevalence. We apply multiple statistical methods to integrate model results with both individual and network data sets, and show how follow-on studies and surveys can provide focused data for further validation.
