Abstract #313553
Title: How One Government Agency Is Approaching Big Data
Author(s): Barbara Stevens*+
Companies:
Keywords: Big Data ; Career ; Opportunities ; Data Science
Abstract:

In an era when both government agencies and businesses are in information overload, a fundamentally new approach is needed for sifting though information to find relevant nuggets. CIA has taken a new approach for analyzing big data by developing a Data Science Career field -- the first of its kind in the government.

In this talk, I will explain why business as usual will not work for analyzing intelligence information for the future. Then I will explain the CIA approach and where we are in achieving this new goal.

Finally, I will talk about recruiting and why traditional statistics programs are not producing the kind of skills needed for the current data environment.
