Title: Testing Equality of Proportions for Correlated Binary Data in Ophthalmologic Studies
Author(s): Chang-Xing Ma*+
Companies: University at Buffalo
Keywords: Homogeneity test ; intraclass correlation
Abstract:

In ophthalmologic studies, a person may have contributed two eyes (two arms, etc.) worth of information, the values from the two eyes being highly correlated. Donner (1989) proposed an adjusted chi-square approach for testing the equality of proportions. In this article, we investigate and derive three alternative testing procedures for the problem. Our simulation results show the score testing procedure usually produces satisfactory type I error control with higher power, and therefore is recommended. Example from otolaryngological studies are used to illustrate our proposed methods.
