Abstract:
|
The Kenya Breastfeeding Study (KiBS), a perinatal HIV Prevention Study, monitored pregnant HIV positive women's health and efforts to prevent HIV transmission as well as fetal and newborn health. Study participants faced problems with medication adherence, initiation of breast feeding and other feeding practices, adherence to follow up visit schedules, and health problems unrelated to their HIV infection. Study staff faced problems with documentation and resolution of inconsistencies in the data. Despite these limitations, we were able to make valid inferences useful for understanding the health and clinical outcomes of HIV infected pregnant women and their offspring in Kenya.
