Abstract:

In clinical settings to examine treatment differences, the relative risk of binary outcomes is of great interest to statisticians, researchers, and clinicians. As a result, the construction of confidence interval of the ratio of two independent binomial proportions is important. In this presentation, we propose a method based on profile likelihood, where the likelihood is weighted by non-informative Jeffreys' prior. By carrying out extensive simulations, we find that the proposed method performs well compared to other well known methods such as asymptotic or exact method using the Farrington-Manning score statistic. Data from medical device clinical studies will be used to illustrate its real-world applications. A SAS/IML implementation of the proposed method is also available upon request.
