Abstract:
|
This talk will highlight the Statistics Initiative of The Alliance for Doctoral Studies in the Mathematical Sciences. The Alliance consists of undergraduate mentors and graduate mentors who work together to promote the successful transition of students from college to graduate study in the mathematical sciences. Emphasis is placed on the transition of U.S. students, especially those from underrepresented groups, into graduate programs. Most of the current graduate mentors are from mathematics departments; however, the Alliance is eager to expand its Alliance Graduate Program Groups (GPGs) in the statistical sciences. Results from a SAMSI workshop that was held to promote this initiative will be presented.
