Abstract:
|
In the fall of 2010 the Department of Statistics at the University of Kentucky inverted its new conceptual statistics course. The scope of this new course was intentionally limited and routine content was placed on videos. Faculty-led class time and TA-led recitation contacts were re-imagined. Three years and nearly 10,000 students later, this paper reflects on the successes and challenges of this fundamental rethinking of our statistics classrooms. The talk will focus largely on our experiences, although we will discuss briefly a controlled experimental comparison between the inverted and traditional settings that we have planned for the fall of 2014.
