Abstract:
|
This poster provides an historical overview of the Statistical Education (Stat-Ed) Section of the American Statistical Association, the ASA section whose objective is broadly interested in the effective use of education as a means of improving the quality of existing applications of statistics and increasing the use of statistics in additional areas of study, with an emphasis on its last 25 years. The second ASA section was originally named the Section on Training of Statisticians from 1944 to 1973. The Stat-Ed Section's governing document is a charter, which explains its officers and its committees. Influential section leaders, including its chairs and program chairs, will be profiled in this poster. Examples of the section's numerous services, such as its meetings, publications, awards, and support to students and sister organizations, will be presented in this display. The poster will describe how some of these services have changed over time, such as the proceedings of its JSM presentations. In addition, it will present future challenges and opportunities for the Stat-Ed Section.
