Title: Analysis of Multimodal PET and Rs-fMRI via Seed-Partial Least Squares

Abstract:

The neuroimaging field has moved towards modality integration of neuroimaging data, but the statistical methods to analyze these combinations are very much in their infancy. Specifically, little work has focused on the combination of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging on the same subjects. The highly correlated structure of these data is seriously limiting the statistical methods that can be used to investigate the relationship between the variables in these scenarios. Seed-Partial Least Squares (seed-PLS), is a dimension reduction technique that is well suited for examining the relationships between PET binding metric and resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging connectivity (rs-fMRI) metric. In this work, seed-PLS was applied to a multimodal neuroimaging sample of 18 subjects to explore the relationship between the PET binding and rs-fMRI. Statistical significance was determined using a permutation test. Significant relationships between the two modalities were observed for the following areas: subgenual cingulate gyrus, anterior cingulate gyrus and ventral anterior cingulate gyrus.
