Abstract:
|
To better understand statistics one must first appreciate the research process. I present an active learning classroom activity based on the Hasbro board game Operation where students participate in the research question development, study design decisions and data acquisition as well as the data analyses. This activity generates a number of categorical and continuous variables amenable to a variety of statistical investigations and thus is easy to embed into any curriculum. Designed to mimic a real-world situation, particularly for medical students, this activity has been described as engaging, educational and memorable.
