Abstract:
|
The 20 game winner has always been one of baseball's gold standards. In the last 35+ years, however, the number of 20 games winners has been on a downward trend. In addition, it has been 45 years since the last 30 game winner. What factors, strategic and otherwise, have contributed to this decline? Some are obvious and intuitive. Other factors are not. This paper examines 112 years of pitching data in an attempt to discover the important reasons for the decline of the 20 game winner and the lack of any recent 30 game winners.
