Abstract:

Statistical Sciences have been thriving in the Research Triangle Area for decades, starting with a visionary leader, Gertrude Cox. She was responsible for laying a strong foundation for strong statistics programs, and the Research Triangle institute. It is the home for the leading statistical and analytics software company, SAS. Biometrics, Technomoetrics, and the Journal of Statistics Education found their roots in this area. The Research Triangle Park is proud to be the home for the National Institute of Statistical Sciences (NISS) and the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI) - two outstanding national research hubs of our profession. Promoting the practice and profession of statistics is in the blood of SRCOS/ASA members in this area. I will reflect my SRCOS experiences about the North Carolina Research Triangle Area, from a new Oregonian Research Triangle (Corvallis-Eugene-Portland) perspective!
