Title: The Impact of Computing on the Transition from Consulting to Collaboration: A Historical Perspective
Author(s): George P. McCabe*+
Companies: Purdue University
Keywords: consulting ; collaboration
Abstract:

The role of the university statistical consulting center has changed dramatically over the past 40 years. Improvements in the way we teach have led to clients who are better prepared to utilize our help. In addition, the availability of quality software has enabled them to perform sophisticated calculations easily. Associated with these changes are advantages and challenges. Today, the statistical consulting center has the potential to facilitate the transition of the role of the statistician from consultant to collaborator. These ideas will be explored in detail and illustrated with anecdotal data.
