Abstract:

During the past decade, vast amount of data becomes available and readily accessible for analyses in many consumer internet and software companies. The size, complexity and speed of increment of data suddenly beyond the traditional scope of statistical analysis. There is also a similar revolution in the industrial and manufacture sectors. The term "Industrial Internet" has been used for situations where big iron machines generate data and communicate with each other. With the development of advanced manufacturing technology, sensor technology and information technology, large scale equipment, such as air craft engines, has the capacity to generate GB or TB of data during their daily operations. The data collected from the industrial internet are in a much better position for statistician to apply various statistical tools for value-added analysis as physics and engineering knowledge usually provide guideline for statistical analysis. This gives statistician an opportunity to provide leadership in this data revolutions. In this talk, the speaker will focus on how statistician can lead and contribute in the ear of big data, especially from industrial internet.
