Abstract:
|
George Box spent the full calendar year 1953 as "Visiting Research Professor" at the Institute of Statistics, NC State Raleigh, reporting to Miss Gertrude Cox. He later returned to the United States (1956-9) to lead the Statistical Techniques Research Group at Princeton in collaboration with S. S. Wilks and John Tukey. Vibrant is the only appropriate word descriptive of both periods. This brief exposition will review the mix of personalities, the varied research venues and the social interactions of these times. The catalyst throughout was George Box.
