Abstract:
|
Some methodological challenges are characteristic of clinical biomedical research conducted with older study samples: potential bias from missing data in longitudinal studies, complex research designs for multicomponent interventions for geriatric syndromes, and the interpretive relevance of standard measures of relative risk. All these issues arise when conducting clinical research in nursing homes and other living situations characteristic of older adults no longer community dwelling. Discussion will focus on the statistical challenges related to nursing home research, with practical reference to two randomized clinical trials now being conducted at the Yale Claude D. Pepper Older American Independence Center.
