Title: Variance Smoothing with Multiple Groups via Fully Moderated T-Statistic

Keywords: variance smoothing ; moderated t-statistic
Abstract:

Small sample sizes lead to great variability in estimates of variances, which is common in gene expression microarray experiments. Fully moderated t-statistic has been proposed by allowing both gene variances and the CV of gene variances to change as a function of gene expression resulting in improved estimates of the prior degrees of freedom as well as gene variances. We are extending this method to heteroscedasticity of multiple groups and comparing to the results assuming homoscedasticity.
